Fact of the matter is, Sony's gaming division grew on IP's they never owned. In wanting to make a mascot-based game now, it's come around to bite them in the ass as apparently it's been very tricky to get these characters. I don't doubt they're trying. I would fully believe that they've tried to get all 4 of those characters. But they don't own them in any right, so all they can do is ask (and offer money/incentives) to try and get them. I've already seen some tweets from someone at Squeenix flat out refusing to allow Lara Croft to be in the game, so that's that one finished (for the time being, at least). It would be better to question why they bothered to make this game in the first place if they're not going to be able to secure their big name PS1-era IP's, but that's a different story. They're making the best of what they've got. |
