I think the military is a good idea if you plan to pursue things After college. Just to pay for college is ok too but for the best bang for your buck, say if you want to go to medical school. After college (u have some debt); then if you get into medical school then apply for the military.
What's cool is that, while you are in medical school; you only go to training like once a year. And then you get a stipend for all 4 years to pay for living expense and food AND they pay for all 4 years of med school (200-250k). During residency u have the choice of a civilian vs military match and then you have to then serve 4 years in the military as a doctor afterward. Your wage in those 4 years will not be as good as some of your newly grad civilian friends but it's probably worth it, looking back at hindsight myself.
This is the only way that I know, that you will graduate medical school with a rank higher than most of your supervisor while u were in school without going through some tough training, and it's the only way i know that you are now a military officer (rank-wise) and never have to fire a gun on the battlefield (just in practice mdoe).
