Well Christ did abrogate the law of divorce from the OT. So while the hell thing is BS, if you want to follow what Christ actually taught you should not get divorced, except if your spouse commits adultery.

Matthew
5:31 It hath been said, Whosoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a writing of divorcement:
5:32 But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery.

The principle of mutatis mutandis means the same thing applies to a man who is divorced. If you divorce for reasons other than adultary then both parties are regarded as adulterers, and if you re-marry then the person you marry is also made an adulterer. Since Christ legitimises divorce on grounds of adultery then if that is the reason for divorce then the non-adulterous spouse is not accounted an adulterer simply due to divorce, and is hence free to re-marry without any spiritual or moral stain on their character.

What's Christ saying here? You should only ever have sex with one person in your life, and that is your husband / wife. 5:32 is essentially a repudiation of on-demand divorce and the only legitimate cause for divorve is fornication.

Don't ever listen to what anyone says is or isn't Christian doctrine. Go to the Bible and read it and understand it for yourself. Heck don't even give any weight to the interpretive stuff I've written. Only pay attantion to the stuff I've quoted from the Bible.

Disclaimer: I am not a Christian, though I do believe in the divine mandate of Christ. I don't recognise the authority of any Church.
