Maybe Sony has just given up on winning the holidays considering Last of Us, Sly, Beyond, and God of War are all coming early next year. They know when they win in sales and are perhaps hoping that even if Xbox wins like they did last year during the holidays PS3 will quickly bounce back with a price cut and slew of awesome titles early next year, possibly overtaking the 360 by E3 or soon after so Sony can go "nanananananahahahahahaha we have more sales than you u!" at E3.
Or they could just be about to release a price cut to around $200 for the new slim with no game attached. They have to be making a sick profit with that new system now and can definitely afford to cut price if they need to if the sales really dip.
