What is weird is that I sometimes get sales tax on Amazon and sometimes don't.  I believe the state of Texas is in the process of suing Amazon or something over that considering they have a distribution center in Texas which lawmakers signal as a sign of them having a physical presence in the state.  I find it kind of weird that some of my purchases are taxed yet some aren't.  Nintendo taxes Texas on the eshop purchases though.  The whole situation just seems fucked up to me.

I would venture to guess that since Amazon let's third parties sell goods through their platform the acctuall seller will sometimes be located in Texas while sometimes they are located elsewhere?

Interesting as your case is, I feel that it doesn't bring light to my question about the tax situation in California.

Here is an article talking about a distribution center being built in Cali.  So they are about to have to start collecting tax for Cali since they have a physical presence in the state.

"This multibillion-dollar building frenzy comes as Amazon is about to lose perhaps its biggest competitive edge — that the vast majority of its customers do not pay sales tax. After negotiations with lawmakers, the company is beginning to collect taxes in California, Texas, Pennsylvania and other states"

So basically if they build a distribution center / warehouse in a state then they will probably be forced to start collecting taxes on consumers of that state.

Yes, I have seen this, and it is my understanding that they would start charging sales tax in California starting either September or October 1st of this year. I am just trying to tap into the experience of California based amazoners that could let me know if they were charged sales tax or not.

On a side not, it just struck me that I have picked the entierly wrong platform for addressing this issue. I would probably be better served asking an acquaintance of mine in California that I happen to know is a frequent customer of Amazon's.
