Look at games that became classics, such as Silent Hill, Tomb Raider, Metal Gear Solid, Parasite Eve, Vagrant Story and Final Fantasy VII. If those games were released today, they would have far less success due to inferior graphics and animation. Games today are judged--by the media at least--more by visuals and less by substance. Just look what has happened to the Splinter Cell games. Heck, even Halo games. |
You make a pretty valid point. There aren't many older franchises that have managed to maintain their quality and success, even with their current iterations. You get the heavy hitters of yesterday--your Silent Hills, SSXs, Final Fantasy's, Twisted Metals, Resident Evils, etc. They've either gone down critically because they couldn't keep up with the times or they've gone down commercially because the times have passed them by and people want something different, now.
I just read your post and quoted. I have a vague memory of this thread. I didn't read the OP just now. I hope it's about the video game division and not the other parts of Sony. I'll post anyway because I don't wanna hit the "back" button!
