...eh, not really
VGcharts reports Demon's Souls with 1.65m and Dark Souls with 1.71m, that's a difference of 0.6 mil.
Considering the far bigger costs of
-marketing -production -360 tech customization
I doubt it was a more profitable game.
I am sorry but fanboyism aside the numbers say that for Namco it was not that good a decision, especially considering they doubled their potential market.

The question here is, would it have been more succesful if it was a PS3 only game ?
The reality is that Dark Souls failed to bring back the original PS3 buyers and the issue is that Demon's Souls was not a highly advertised impulse buy, it was a game that sold slowly through word of mouth and people knew what they were getting themselves into. I mean if there is a crowd you could say that got the game because of the reviews and the hype and din't like it, that is (some) 360 gamers.

It was not the developers' decision but Namco's. But anyway real fans have nothing to bitch about since the game was not compromised / westernized one bit for the shake of the 360 crowd.
If anything 360 / PC gamers got a taste of real old school playstation gaming.
