Sharla seems to be essential at first, but ultimately she is pretty useless. I took down the strongest UMs with only Shulk as healer and without Melia who some people think of as super awesome.

I used Melia for only one boss fight, whenever I used here else I lost. She sucks. I mean two attack from any boss and she is done. She might do some solid damage until she dies, and she dies very soon.
