Only in Europe... and it was overtaken pretty soon after these grpahs end I think.  It had a VERY good start on the back of the PS2 juggernaut of the time.

Good point. That goes to show you the importance of the power of a brand. Oddly that doesn't apply to the Game boy line as much, though the GBA did underperform for a Nintendo handheld (in relative terms of course).

I though game boy advance done very well, especially as it was virtually a monopoly at that time. But you do know those total game boy sales include the first game boy from 1989 all the way up to the game boy color in 1998, despite game boy game boy color being a new format
