If you are looking for performance try a hybrid drive that includes a bit of SSD in it. That and 7200 rpms over 5200 which is what your current HDD is. There is a performance boost to load times and it can reduce the amount of pop ups in game. If you are a digital game guy this is a good route. You will have to pay a little more but you can still get a 500gb hybrid for $50 to $100.

Last week's episode of the PS Blogcast talked out it, mentioning their digital copy of borderlands 2 had significantly less pop up. It is known that Gran Turismo load times to race almost cut in half. Not every game will see a benefit so don't expect the world. The 7200 could be loader than your current HDD but you could be able to read reviews on particular drives and I know some people on here have such a drive. Ask ethomaz, he has one and I am considering doing the same soon.

Unless you yourself have used the 7200, don't give misleading information. Three separate friends of mine all reported issues with the 7200 rpb HDD and most of the reviews I read state that it doesn't work very good with the ps3. (overheating/noise)

I've been using a 7200rpm drive for years and my PS3 is still fine. I'd say go for a 7200rpm, unless you really worry about these things.
