Why would Microsoft have an edge? They had the lowest sales rate of the generation and the lowest installed base despite launching a year before the others. Yes, they've done very well taking market share in North America and their stategy of buying DLC seems effective, but the Xbox brand hasn't caught on world-wide. I think they might be more at risk of losing ground. They have to come out strong. Nintendo and Playstation, however, have proven they can survive awful starts as brands. Regardless, a new generation is anyone's game. We never know what's going to happen. |
What MS has a benefit in is they aren't going to be hampered by the Yen to wester currency exchange rate like Nintendo and Sony are. That will give them a benefit either in terms of initial profits or making a more powerful console at the same price.
They've also done far better to help the Xbox brand over this generation than Sony has.
I agree that it's anyone's game but MS will have a financial edge because of the changes in the currency exchange rate.
