The most iconic video game character of all time is easily Mario, nothing else comes close. An icon has to have an instantaneously distinguishable appearance, an easily recognisable voice and a consistent personality. They must be unique, have a memorable name and star in a popular franchise.
Xbox and Playstation only have a single iconic character each whilst Nintendo has a handful with one in particular being easily the most significant iconic video game character of all time. Out of the three video game console manufacturers the most popular icons unarguably are:
Nintendo = Mario. Xbox = Master Chief. Playstation = Kratos.
