If you've been playing Borderlands 2, and you've made it to Sanctuary, you may have seen the NPC Michael Mamaril, who gives you a higher-level item, which pops an achievement/trophy for you, "Tribute to a True Vault Hunter". This isn't just anything random - Michael John Mamaril was a big Borderlands fan who lost the battle with cancer in October of last year. A friend of his, known as Carlo, wrote to Gearbox to ask them to have Claptrap give a eulogy for him. Not only did they give his eulogy, but they also immortalized him in Borderlands 2, making him not only even an easter egg or anything, but an achievement/trophy, to boot.
Borderlands 1 was one of the best games of all-time, and I instantly decided Gearbox was an incredible developer and one of my favourites. Then they go and do this and manage to one-up themselves. Glad to see that fans aren't just another dollar to you. Well-played, friends, and rest in peace, Michael John Mamaril.
