There are 18 states who have gone democrat in the last 5 elections, and they have 242 electoral votes. You need 270 to win. While Republicans have 13 states that gurantee 102 electoral votes. Still Republicans managed to elect Bush twice didn't they. Romney just have to win nearly everywhere but the most passionate Democrat states. Hardly impossible when the winner-takes-it-all system is still standing.
It's a huge task... but huge may include debates heavily disfavouring one candidate like yesterday, so yeah.
