Though granted he did think richer countries were screwing over poorer countries and that poorer countries would get ahead by shoving out rich countries influence.

It means his father was a rebel against the system (such as it is). Kenya was single-party socialist at the time, which is probably why he held both of those views, that socialism was bad but that the capitalist superpowers were abusive of their status.
