I would take some frustration out of the game with it not always being able to tell the difference between a right-left, left-right slash, and more often not recognizing a stab. (The vertical had less problems) There's only 4 options anyway, it could easily be mapped to buttons.
Being able to control the camera is far more important to me in a 3D game then air sword fighting.

On the other hand, I might have gotten bored with skyward sword a lot sooner without the motion control gimmick. It was just a poor Zelda no matter what control method.
