I think bad reviews have a huge effect on sales because most franchises dont have enough "fan boys" to survive on bad reviews. For example I would probably buy any Final Fantasy game no matter what the reviews say because I've been a fan for so long, but if I saw a new game come out that I was excited for but knew nothing about, I would trust the reviews more.
