The reason RE has gone down the drain is because RE4 did so darn well.

Resident Evil 4 surely changed the graphicstyle and other things but it still was Resident Evil - The atmosphere and everything still was there.They could and should have pursued that way instead of taking it further into a complete wrong direction.
Resident Evil 5 - The first Resident Evil that was directed at the western audience turned into a Gears of War wannabe garbage game.
Resident Evil 6 is taking it even further cause they said the Survival Horror Genre is to small for them and they aim at the Call of Duty/Halo/Gears Community and you can clearly see that.
Except the characters NOTHING even shares anything with the RE Franchise before RE5 - Its a complete new thing.
They turned Resident Evil into a shooter for mindless zombie kids of this Gen so they can get the attention of the CoD/Halo/Gears Community.
Final Fantasy changed a lot too but cause it is a J-RPG they couldn't turn it into the same mess.
But they also said they want the attention of those communities and are willing to ignore the community that made them so big cause obviously 25 Million CoD Kids that aren't interested in anything else than CoD are more appealing for SquareEnix than ~ 10 Million true fans.
