It has some influence on a small minority of people. It depends on the popularity of the game franchise as well. Sonic sells well even though every game it has is almost always torn up by reviews. The reviews and demos are really making me not want to get this game at launch but I'll still pick it up at some point regardless because I grew up with RE. Probably the same reason FF13 did so well.
