Sony shows that they are totally confused now and is trying desperately to gain some attention http://www.digitalspy.com/gaming/news/a409202/playstation-vita-price-cut-coming-next-year-says-sony.html
Why else would they announce/confirm a price cut before their first holiday/Christmas season? C'mon they just told consumers not to buy the Vita and wait till next year for the price cut!!! BONKERS!!!!

They are loosing to Nintendo in the worst way possible so they want people to hold off in buying a 3DS is pretty much it, the problem is they don't even have massively appealing games. Really should jump out of the handheld business while they still can so they don't loose R&D costs.

With this announcement I'll be very, very surprised if the PSV even touches 5 mil sold worldwide after the holidays.  Hell, 4 mil will probably be a struggle since people will just wait for the price cut before diving in.  The problem is that the Wii U, will be out by that time to compete with gamers dollars.  IMHO, the Wii U, is a much more attractive value for the money than what PSV currently provides; even if they cut the price by $50 (the most they can afford).  Another issue would be the 720/durango announcement that would overshadow any price cut announment the Vita would have.  I'm with you that Sony should just pull the plug on this comatose product.  The Wii U is looking mighty good and I am excited over anything Durango related; without focus Sony's PS4, will be overshadowed and forgotten.
