Great post. Thanks! People seem to forget that games like RAGE and Infinity Blade boasted very high production values and used the limited touch interface fairly effectively too. Infinity Blade was a bigger financial success for ChAIR than Shadow Complex (and yes, I weep about that too). The point is that smartphone gaming, for as prevalent as it is, still hasn't been taken SERIOUSLY by game publishers or developers. MS has the most vested interest in taking it to the next level, but they haven't yet. That's frustrating, but it's also the main raison d'être of this discussion. They have not made one peep about WP8 gaming. They have not revealed all of WP8 yet. Am I really stretching here to think that gaming might be one of the final reveals (along with Xbox Music details) AND they may have a big title to show as well? |
Well, to be honest, not sure for reveal - but I do hope that Microsoft invests lot of the attention to gaming on Win phones, not just with their own studios, but attracting current top dogs in that arena, thus offering users what they already got to expect from their current iOS/Android expiriences, but at the same time distinguishing themselves with 1st party titles . I find WinPhone 8 platform to be great middle ground between walled garden of iOS on one hand, and wild west of Android versions and hardware on the other, so I do see lot of potential there. That said, I would love to see Sony pushing (with their abundance of IPs) in same direction too (well, I guess they sorta-kinda trying that), but I think Microsoft might have upper hand here.
