You are right. I actually agree with what you wrote. But just like the food gourmet will preach to his friends how cheap and bad it is to go eat at McDonalds and Burger King, we who call ourselves hardcore or sophisticated gamers must preach how bad it is to consume casual and dumbed down games. You can't blame the publisher just like you can't blame the restaurant manager (because they both love money). You just need to increase awareness among consumers. |
True, we one the same line. We should preach as "hardcore" gamers, of course. But still I think the publisher is the main actor to blame, since the producer, of the higher value product, should be the one to increase awareness among consumers before anyone else, he is the one most directly interested to make the consumers perceive the product's quality and the one who has the resorces to do it. With Capcom I see exactly the opposite, they are selling an ordinary product while presenting it as an high quality product (thanks to the Resident Evil brand).
It's not just about loving the money, you can still sell a quality product and make a lot of money, and even if Re6 manages to sell well on short term I doubt this game is gonna have a good impact on Capcom's business and perception in the long term.
On the other hand if you're doing you business properly it will eventually pay off. To return at the previous example, if you have 4 resturants on a 4 corner crossroad, everyone selling BigMacs, and at one point one resturant decides to offer T-bone steak instead of hamburgers, then most likely this resturant will attract enough costumers to make more money than the others.
