I'd wait off until the PS3 launches. There will be dedicated reviews for it (I would assume) that will detail how well it runs, whether it translates well to consoles and whether the redesign has done it any good.
About WoW, I think it only added the free levelling during Cataclysm, or possibly late Wrath of the Lich King, so it happened quite late into the cycle.
