I respectfully disagree.
While the polygons in some early 3D games look a little rough around the edges in 2012, I don't think it's fair to dismiss the entire generation.
I'm of the opinion that video games reached a creative and artistic peak between the end of the fourth generation and the beginning of the sixth generation. There are tons of great video games from the past five years, but if I was to make a top 20 list it would be filled mostly with games from 1994-2002.
