I agree with JustThatGamer - there are lot of people that just don't care much for Nintendo IPs, and I don't see them being automatically haters. I grew up playing Donkey Kong in arcades to hell and back, but other than that game, only other Ninty IPs I really like are Mario Kart and (more or less) Zelda.
As for Ninty defining gaming as we know it today - I'd say that there are lot of influences on gaming through decades, Nintendo being one of them, but for anyone who had computers too along side consoles (like C64, Amiga and PC) it is obvious how much of game design influences came from that direction too (in my opinion actually much more diverse).
So people do not have to hate Ninty just to not care much about their products - just like people don't have to hate Sony and Microsoft to not like Halo, God of War, Uncharted, Gears....it is just matter of preference.
