The end of Final Fantasy XIV (as we know it)

So, what if you are undecided whether or not to get this game, WoW lets you play for free until lv 20, doesn't it?

What if this turns to another fiasco? I do want to try it in my PS3, and I might even consider pay a monthly fee, but FF recently has let me down, ....big time.
