People love no commercials, and even better they love the entire season being released at once instead of slowly trickling out over 9 months. |
You don't have to watch commercials, simply buy a pvr/tivo. Watch it 20 minutes after the air time and you can skip through all the commercials.
There is a reason shows are spread out over time, watching it all close together will lead to series fatigue much faster. I watched the first 3 seasons of Dexter on Netflix, got fed up with up, it become all too slow and similar when watched close together. I had the same with series I bought like Heroes and Battlestar Galactica. And I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be watching Fringe anymore if I had it all in one dose. No more did you see that episode last night conversations either.
Nothing wrong with having the choice, but it didn't work for me. And it's a lot easier to try a new series when you don't have to decide first if it's worth paying extra for. Plus internet has to get a lot better before it can compete with the HD quality of cable, at least over here. I recently cancelled Netflix, too cumbersome to check my internet usage all the time and having to wait until my cap resets to see the rest.
Maybe for my kids it will be the only way to watch tv by the time they grow up. TV has gone from a very social experience (My parents watched tv as kids at the neighbours, one of the few with a tv, with a lot of other people coming over regularly to watch the limited broadcast on 1 channel) to a completely individual experience where even family members hardly ever watch together anymore.
