With Dark Souls the novelty has worn off...the type of game is more familiar now. And for a few people the game appears to be too similar to demon souls and wont go out and buy the game again.

Are you kidding me? I want to go out and buy the Prepare to Die edition when that comes out. I bought Demon's Souls because I loved Dark Souls so much, and I'd be beyond excited if From Software announced a sequel. Dark Souls is perhaps one of my favorite games this console generation. It's locked me in my bedroom like no other game has except for Deus Ex: Human Revolution. In fact, if I had a gaming PC I'd be buying the PC version too.

Hey hey i was also excited for Dark Souls :)

Point im trying to make here is that not everybody would have felt that way. Especially PS3 owners. I know a lot of guys who heard of the hype of Demon Souls and went out and bought it. Because it was sooo unique, so difficult etc. Now im not saying thats not true for Dark Souls but for many people especially PS3 owners, its not worth buying such a "similar" game.

And yes i know the games are very different i have played both but my argument isnt really about the game but more about gamers perception. Bottom line i dont think the PS3 sales would have been significantly higher had the game been an exclusive.
