ROFL. More like barely 7 years.
Developers have been complaining for 2 years that 360 and PS3 needed more ram.
Epic told Microsoft back in 2005 that 512mb might not be enough for 360. And that Ram would be a bigger issue as visuals and physics etc got better. ID software said te PS3 and 360 versions of Rage would have been much better to have the same hardware just 1 gb ram instead of 512.
8 gb ram in 2017 for example will feel ordinary for the consoles. IMO Wii U is massively underpowered wit its ram. And by 2014 will struggle as third parties just wont be doing a low port for it due to inefficient ram. Hell Far Cry 3 running on an OS Windows 7 or Windows 8 which uses 512mb ram needs a minimum of 4 gb on PC and a maximum for highest graphics settings of yep 8 gb RAM in 2013. By 2018 PC games could require 16 gb ram for maximum settings or even 20gb ram
