Neither of them feel the need to, with the WiiU simply a catch up to current HD standards, and in general both wanting to capitalize more on the current gen. I am almost positive this is what MS and Sony's little face to face meeting was for a few months back. This is only reinforced by the fact Sony says they will still support PS3 till 2015. It would be PS3 suicide to announce and release in 2013, sales will plummet for the just breaking even console. The same happened to the Wii after the WiiU was announced, I don't think that worked out how Nintendo wanted either. It is far more likely that the next MS/Sony consoles will be announced in early to mid 2014, then later released Christmas season or 2015. Also for many thinking of how Sony handled PS2, PS3 doesn't have those kind of legs to survive after the nxt console comes. That actually hurt PS3 early on as a product (although Sony did it cuz PS2 was pure profit) because people could still get the latest games on their older hardware for a LOT less. This time around Sony will be wanting to pull the Plug almost instantaneously just like MS and NIN did on their last gen systems. |
So you think the PS360 can have not only a sustainable holiday in 2013, but also in 2014? Releasing in 2014 would be pushing it. Releasing in 2015 would be suicide. Look how much the consoles are already going down.
