I agree and disagree. Both GT and Forza devs painstakingly take detail seriously. For example Turn 10 wont do rain until they can properly realtime simulate the physics. Rather than use a few tricks. Unfortunately no console this generation has the power to do it realistically enough realtime. There are far more variable calculations for when its raining. For me where the difference is is that Polyphony concentrate on autenticity of the original cars through and through. Not to say Turn 10 dont, but they allow more customisation/personalisation of the cars. More here is a Ferrari 458 italia, now make it yours. If anything Turn 10 seem to put more detail in their scenery than Polyphony. Why? Who knows, but Turn 10 have alot more staff than Polyphony. Playing GT5 last month it felt like rigt heres your cars, race them on these tracks. thats it. Forza 4 is more here are your cars, race on these tracks. design this for your car, or go into this playground with that spiderman Skyline. Forza 4 feels more free. More about you as a player. A place to completely mess around with 800 or so cars now available. GT5 is a good sim, its just much more streamlined into what the developer wants you to do with the cars. But yea I agree. GT5 Universe would never come out. I still think we wont see GT6 for another 4-5 years. |
That's what I mean, Turn 10 knows when to stop and release. GT5 might still not have been released if it wasn't for Sony forcing them. They would have been better off leaving the 'wax candle' deformation damage out completely for example.
Maybe next gen we'll get more realtime weather simulation and time of day for all tracks. I always loved messing around in fsx with real world weather, why not have it for sim racers. The thrill of hydroplaning and hearing the water spray against the chassis through puddles would also be nice to have.
