I feel ancient reading stuff like this. When I was a kid you came home from school for lunch. The school was closed between 12pm and 1:00pm. Of course schools were a lot smaller and closer by.
At high schools you brought your own lunch, the only thing available to buy was plain school milk. There were no fast food joints near the school either, 15 minute walk to the nearest supermarket.
When/why did this whole lunch cafeteria stuff at schools start?
I grew up in The Netherlands maybe it has always been like this in NA?
Anyway bring back packed lunches. Their are plenty of tasty healthy alternatives available if you don't like the limited choices from a school cafeteria. Then go educate the parents...
