Pre-order are sales... Apple received cash for that... and retail receive more units even if the pre-order consumers not. It's all depend of contract made with the retail... I know the pre-order contract have terms to made the consumers wait the delivery.
For me Apple is not counting the pre-orders not delivered and I think they should.
