Seriously though, do they have anything to gain from this decision? Seems like nothing but lost software sales to me.

How? If you buy a game from the the country you buy it directly from them. But if buy it second-hand ebay or whatever they lose money.

Unless there is a deal with Nintendo to import worldwide there would be no way they could make profit from it.
