Could just be because they thought SotC was one of the most amazing and critically acclaimed unique games they've ever played and think that Nintendo could use another couple games like that. Or no, it's probably all those things you guys are talking about. y'know by this logic Nintendo should just go copy Angry Birds since that shits all over NSMB, but that'd be stupid because it wouldn't be the amazing game I assume you guys love to play. Sales numbers or no there are some games that will be remembered for a really long time as the best that their generation had to offer, and why shouldn't Nintendo get another one of those? Sure they have tons already, but does one more actually hurt them?
I know this is a site dedicated to sales, but you guys do know that a game's quality isn't defined by it and you can have an amazing game that doesn't sell millions, right? Or do you honestly believe everything you say about not bothering to make a game like the one that almost always makes it into top 10's for best games ever?
I'm sure this all falls on deaf ears, and you'll continue to go on and on about sales while I try and talk about the quality of games.

So what you trying to say because a game is a franchise multi-instalment hit, that somehow makes it less of a classic than a potential one hit wonder? Listen pal, no matter how many Zelda games, for example, Nintendo makes all of them will be on par and even better than games like SotC. For example, Zelda Wind Waker, why don't you try arguing on this site that this game is any less special or memorable than SotC. Just as much people will love to see another Wind Waker game as much as they will like to see another SotC game.
So while, I agree that sales don't make a good game, try keeping off of Ninty's back, because Nintendo puts infinitely more care and hardwork into each installment of their big first party titles more than any other developer. See the link below about the school or training Ninty put on for making Mario games. That's dedication to perfection regardless of the number of installments in the series.

Or maybe, you're arguing than Nintendo has no new IPs, but what you call games like Pikmin, or Nintendogs. Or maybe Nintendo should revive games like Golden Sun or Earthbound?
Nintendo doesn't need to do anything but be Nintendo, no blood, no guts, just great franchise games.

I'm not your pal, friend.
mk, that out of the way. I'm not arguing any of that crap, jeezus. I am saying that Nintendo is not perfect, there is no game like SotC made by Nintendo, maybe that's because they don't give a little group like Team Ico total freedom to just screw around and maybe they should give it a shot. I'm arguing that just because SotC doesn't sell amazing doesn't mean that Nintendo couldn't use a game like it.
So to recap, I got into this because I'm so tired of people getting defensive the second someone says Nintendo might be able to work on something. I swear it's like a religion. The idea that Shigy isn't an infallible god just gets some people in a frenzy and it's terribly annoying to see. SotC is an amazing game, Nintendo doesn't have a comparable game, maybe they could look into trying to make a team like team ico.

I hope I'm not overstepping my place by inserting myself into this conversation.
I think there is a fundmental disagreement here between two sides. I had the same disagreement with happydolphin earlier in the thread.
One side, I believe, is arguing that Nintendo should invest in studios like Team Ico and games like Shadow of the Colossus.
The other side, and please correct me if I'm wrong, is arguing that it is unnecessary, because Nintendo's games are already as good or better than Colossus.
I think one side is looking at Shadow of the Colossus as a game with some special property that can be emulated.
And one side is looking at Shadow of the Colossus as simply a great game.
So therein lies this stalemate. I think each side is arguing a different point. On one hand, why borrow from Colossus is it's just a great game? Nintendo already has tons of great games. On the other hand, if there is something unique about Colossus' greatness, then that should be borrowed by Nintendo.
I hope what I wrote makes sense.
