Perhaps something to do with the new consoles?? Maybe even valves new hardware coming next year :?

Yeah, crossed my mind that by introducing that hardware Valve is maybe aiming to become another competing platform in "console wars" - have whatever PC you like if it meets minimal requirements, but "Steam VR" headset is required for playing "Steam VR" games?
