I don't see why they can't do it themselves.
I mean if they put an idea out, like in kickstarter terms, and it gets a ton of what are effectively pre-sales... why not? So long as the benefits are similar and all that.
Maybe not on Kickstarters actual site as that is against its purpose, but they could do it on their own websites with the right amount of commercialization.
