I don't think "piracy" has any kind of significant effect on hardware sales, but as far as this is concerned, even if an exploit were found that allowed the running of unsigned code from the XMB, it would mean nothing considering that:
-Most people don't have an internet connection capable of downloading or uploading 25-50GB files(atleast not in a timely manner).
-Blu-Ray recordable drives and recordable media are entirely too expensive for the mass market.
