When Apple blocks an app for selfish reasons, it is because the app is in violation of Apple's developer agreement, something that Apple is uniquely qualified to know about (hence the term "selfish"). Apple is not qualified to know about Nintendo's copyrights and licensing deals with every third-party developer on the planet. An app could look like a cheesy clone and still be legally licensed (e.g. Wand of Gamelon).
Judging by the Google Play store, it's a safe bet that for every shady app that actually slips through Apple's process, there are a hundred more that were successfully blocked. The system isn't perfect, but it works: once the copyright holder becomes aware of the violation, they get the app pulled, so illegitimate apps never survive more than a few days of publicity. Would you say that Google "goes after Hollywood head ON!!!" just because a handful of movies can be found on YouTube?
