Well you might agree, that the war on drugs is a waste of time, effort and money. I believes this law, gives power to the mexican cartels and brazilian favela gangs, while america gets to arrest a portion of it's own people for taking drugs (not really a crime!) If drugs were legal, even if it was just marijuana at first, prison population would fall massively and so would gang crime i believe. Most of the western world is stupid for doing this policy (a few European countries don't like the netherlands)

well it seems like a lot of people are arrested just for smoking illegal drugs and that's really it. I doubt America would have anywhere near such a high prison population

Got some facts... In 2005, 601 per 100,000 people arrested because of drug related crime, only 110 of those supplied drugs, the rest were caught posessing it.

Also, from 1980 to now an average of 120,000 to 130,000 arrests made because of drug posession or sale, a lot of people to arrest in one year. Even legalising just marijuana would bring that down surely
