You're assuming that people buy a system to specifically play every game they buy for that system, which really isn't the case ...
Consider a family of 4 this Christmas where the parents decide to buy a Wii U as a gift from "Santa" to everyone, they pick up Just Dance 4 for little Sally, Lego City for little Billy, Mom gets New Super Mario U and Dad gets Call of Duty Black Ops.
Households are fully of diverse demographics of people, and a console which can provide a steady stream of good games for everyone in the household will be quite popular; even if some of the people in the household are only playing games that are available on other systems.
