E3 might let them spread enough hype to affect sales in the enthusiast crowds, but if they don't launch in 2013... dunno. Going to be a long, uphill fight if either of them hold off longer than a year.

I agree that until Spring, there's nothing Microsoft or Sony can do to hurt WiiU's sales. What's more, the biggest problem so far seems to be the lack of enough consoles to meet the demand (something that could, ironically, benefit MS and Sony).

And I also agree that E3 will be very important for all of them. MS and Sony will probably give some details of their new consoles, they may even show the final hardware and give price and launch dates, and that will at least slow WiiU sales.

But Nintendo can mitigate the damage if they are capable of showing that third parties really care about WiiU and will support them once the launch period is over with new games (not necessarily exclusives) and also bringing to the table more info about their 1st party games. That's where studios like Retro or Monolith enter in action.
