I love moments like these.....providing facts to show the simply reality. And like we established.....this isnt taking into account the gamers interest (aka sales) of these games. This was from a 2010 list I made. For this thread im only gonna put PSN vs XBLA XBLA METACRITIC.COM PSN METACRITIC.COM __________________ My 2012 current 360 vs PS3 list. This one doesn't separate downloadable from retail due to the increased relevance of downloadable titles. But im sure you can pick them out and see the same conclusion. 360 _____________ Granted some games here are/were only timed exclusive. I still think thats worth mentioning none the less. History has shown the later releases get lost in obscurity and irrelevance. Like my previous post said. PS3 has retail nailed down. PSn is great, but doesnt hold a candle to XBLA. |
I'd be cautious when using Metacritic to try 'rate' PSN / XBLA games, as a lot of games go completely under the rardar and are lucky to get 5 reviews. For example Machinarium which just arrived on PSN a few weeks ago still doesn't have a 'metacritic rating' but has 85+ for IoS / Pc versions and from what I've seen will get over 80 on PSN. I think you're lists are incomplete too - for example Oddworld: Stranglers Wrath HD (Brilliant game!) is 82 on metacritic but you've missed it. Infamous: Festival of Blood is another missing game too...
I think they're both great services but I think over the last year or 2 Sony has done a great job at building and expanding the service which XBLA has stalled somewhat. XBLA still has the 'megahit' games of summer but everything else seems to be suffering (I'm only basing this off a few interviews with indie devs I read... will dig up some links if you need), whereas PSN is trying to go for a more even approach all around. The indie fund stuff is starting to reap some rewards finally, they're making the servicd easier for developers, PS+ is finally taking off... but there's no real figures around at all to make this any more then my opinion.
I don't own an Xbox but one thing I do wonder... is XBLA still miles behind on selling full retail games? Last I checked the selection was quite varied but they all cost maximum price and were never on sale. Whereas PSN still have them expensive at launch, it cuts their price down in sales only a few months after release and is really starting to push buying them on PSN on day of release. FIFA 12, Borderlands 2 both have pre-order incentives on PSN... Microsoft are missing a trick if they're not sorted that part out yet.
