Beside "self proclaimed hard ass hardcore" gaming is very important in the home console segment. It's numerically on par with the casual segment and it has a more predictable behaviour (meaning you can trust those consumers, they will buy your new system if they liked the old one).

well...they've been know to jump ship pretty eagerly actually. How many ps 2 fans were underwelmed with the original ps3 pricetag and decided to go with the cheaper and just as good 360 at the time?

They jumped on another system with VERY similar characteristics, VERY similar game library and lower price. As for the next MS/SONY console, you can take the "similar" part out of the equation.

Hardcore gamers (which are more than half of PS360 owners going by the software sales) will surely dig in the next hardware iteration. And if they can't afford it, they will wait and keep using what they own now, because from their point of view wiiU has nothing new to offer. You can spin it however you want, but it's a fact. Most of the games on wiiU will also be on the XBOX 360 and PS3.

Casual gamers are different. They go and buy an iphone or a new bag or whatever is hot that moment or whatever they feel like. It's compulsive, not predictable, not reliable.
