The only advantage you should get from software ideas should be a time-to-market lead. It shouldn't be patent protected for 10 years+.
If every patent was enforced according to its wording, no one in electronics would be able to make anything. Apple started this patent apocalypse so they need to deal with the fact they didn't invent anything and themselves copied from others (which I think is OK! but Apple hypocritically do not)
