It's far harder to kill someone with a non-gun weapon mechanically and emotionally.
Ofcourse with a knife it's possible to kill instantly aswell ,if you hit the right place and hard that is , while with a gun a normal shot to the head usually does the trick in most cases.
In no way I want to downplay the kids own responsibility here , but without the gun I highly doubt he'd be able to do this.
I wonder , if he realized ,that this ruins not only his family , but his own life aswell , before he did it (he should understand it by now).
