But it's not a 200$ phone.

Its not?

Who the hell buys a phone off contract?

Yes, it's not. A huge chunk of the contract is to pay off the phone. Calculations like this make people get into crazy high depts because they onls think about the initial cost and forget about the huge tail.

While I technically agree with you, its a cellphone. The reason no one cares about contracts is because we know we'll always have one, therefore the contract price is the real price.

Buying the iPhone for 600 bucks or whatever and getting a custom contract that fits your needs would almost everytime leave you with a better deal, sometimes even way better. But I'm not here to defend anything, I have a 8 year old phone with a 10€ prepaid card :D

But it's true, you can clearly see that Sony made a huge mistake with their policy. They wanted to get a super powerful device on the market that would last them 10 years and their primary selling point is power and graphical fidelity, but Moore's Law just keeps raining on their parade.

Ongoing bet with think-man: He wins if MH4 releases in any shape or form on PSV in 2013, I win if it doesn't.
