I don't know how you can even make that statement, given that The Last of Us' animations are excellent and so were the animations in Uncharted games. The animations in AC games don't look as fluid, just view some of the slow-motion trailers (I know, I've said this before). They might have improved them in AC3, but so far I haven't seen a drastic improvement. Even so, The Last of Us' animations are almost perfect for what they're trying to do so how you can say AC3 clearly has better animations is beyond me.

Again, comes down to opinion.  In a technical standpoint the Anvil engine is handling so many more animations per second than TLoU engine.  Heck the main character has over 2000 animations alone.  I don't think TLoU would have such animations if the main character was actually jumping off walls, climbing trees, all in quick movement.

I googled and saw a dev saying they smoothed up the animations for AC3, so that might be true...but, how many animations does Joel have in The Last of Us?

Edit: And do you have a source for the 2000 Connor animations? I've only seen 1000+. But numbers from devs should generally be taken with a grain of salt. It's all about the look and feel, not the raw numbers.

Yeah, because devs mention those kind of numbers to build hype and impress the impressionable people.  Naughty Dog don't mention that kind of numbers.  Who's to say it's not comparable though.  But people are free to believe whatever they want. I prefer relying on the end results and my own eyes.

When it comes to animation, what counts is how smooth everything falls and fits together. Otherwise, you're not talking about animation, but the  number of available actions available, however jerky they go from one to an other.

Looking at recent AC3 animation, the fluidity is amazing.  The way he moves from roof top to roof top.  Also the number of animations plays a big part in the fluidity.  Especially in a game like Assassins creed where the main character needs a lot of animations to preform the basic functions of the game.  If you have far less animations, no matter how well they're done you will still see jerkiness if your character preforms as many animations as the main character of assassins creed games.  Also if you haven't noticed there aren't giant groups of enemies in TLoU.  Whereas in Assassins creed 3 they have to deal with animations for Sea battles, Large scale battles with many different enemies animations.  It's clear which software houses animators have their hands full.  Not saying Naughtydogs animations are bad, I'm just saying that the Assassin creed team has some amazing animators.
