Is it really so hard to believe the PS2 didnt have a casual userbase? Having a game for everyone doesnt mean it attracted everyone. Kinda like the Wii having core games but no much of a core base. Its funny really I constantly see HD gamers saying Wii core games are flops because they didnt do sell much compared to Sony or Microsoft's core games. Yet I point out the Wii's casual games mopped the floor with the PS2's casual games and Sony fans go ape shit lol.
