Some points to why I don't think this is the worst:
1) SNES vs Genesis was much worse than this generation. "Genesis does...what Nintendon't" and the Mortal Kombat debacle caused some harsh console bashing back then.
2) Cursing out on the Internet
There is no such thing as a console war. This is the first step to game design.
